The eLearning Unit at St George’s, University of London works to support and enhance the student learning experience. We develop engaging learning resources, perform research, and participate in projects with long-standing and well-established international partnering institutes.

Our purpose is to:

  • develop, maintain and implement innovative technology-enhanced learning solutions to support our students, staff, and the wider communities of educators and healthcare professionals.

  • create first-class research and development groups, focused chiefly on innovation and international collaboration in the field of technology scenario-based learning, and in particular virtual patients

  • develop online learning experiences to support continuing professional development in medicine and healthcare, particularly through the creation of MOOCs (massive open online courses).

Who we are

We are a group with backgrounds in bioscience, technology, computing and education who recognise the potential for technology to support enhanced blended learning experiences.

What we do

Supporting the student experience

Innovation is at the forefront of our approaches to learning in medical and healthcare education. We specialise in using virtual patients to enhance group teaching, lectures and MOOCs.

International collaborations and research

We have an extensive history of being involved in and leading funded cutting-edge projects and international networks, producing ground-breaking research into the use of scenario-based learning approaches for the development of decision-making skills and training against medical error.

Curriculum transformation

Collaborating with several international medical universities, we have successfully transformed their curricula through the introduction of technology-enhanced learning and development of online learning resources.
